Your One Wild and Precious Life:
Imagination, Activism, Creativity—Soul Work!
The premise of Jean’s Jungian and spiritual perspective begins with the certainty that it matters what we do with our “one wild and precious life,” a quote from the poet, Mary Oliver. Most of us have an innate sense that there is a purpose to life related to the idea that life is a soul journey. To do what we came to do and be who we were meant to be is not so easy; especially in the midst of unchosen circumstance. Vulnerability and loss are both mythic and deeply personal experiences, as is aging. What now? Jung’s individuation, Campbell’s finding your personal myth, the hero or heroine’s journey, Persephone’s abduction into the underworld, Hecate at the crossroad, are archetypal patterns that can provide insights to support us on our journeys. Imagination precedes change—psyche is activated by stories, role models, and dreams that touch soul. Passion and imagination precedes creativity, healing, activism on behalf of ourselves and others. In being true to what deeply matters to us, we become who we were meant to be.

Pandemic as a Liminal Pause
Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen and Claudette Werleigh
with Justine Toms as Moderator
The conversation will focus on the pause we are in now which can be called a threshold, a doorway or liminal space. How might we use this time? What will evolve from it? How might each one of us be changed? Let's imagine together. As I watched Andrea Bocelli sing Amazing Grace.on Easter Sunday the camera panned the empty streets of Paris, London, Milan, and New York. I was stuck by a thought, "We are all walking blindly into a future we might imagine together."

Keynote Saturday: On the Threshold of the Age of Artemis
The day after the Trump inauguration, women’s’ marches “happened"—they rose as an idea that went viral on the internet, and word of it moved us to go. It felt like a calling for me to board a plane for Washington DC, as others did in cities and towns across the United States, soon after the “me-too” movement and the numbers of women running for office. Like waves that arise deep in the ocean and gain momentum until they rise as huge waves when they reach shore, so has it been for waves of feminism. The first wave was the Women’s suffrage movement, which began with five women sitting around a table organizing a women’s conference in Seneca Falls in 1848. After years of perseverance, organizing, ridicule and jailing, women finally got the right to vote, with the final state ratifying the 19th amendment in 1920. The next wave began toward the end of the 1960s, with Consciousness Raising groups and conferences, making 1970s the decade of women and the rise of feminism, including the first UN World Conferences on Women in 1975. The 1980s saw a rise of women’s spirituality in California through two significant conferences, the rise of ritual, of circles, and the return of the goddess as archetypes (Goddesses in Everywoman) and as the Divine Feminine. We are in a liminal time, on the threshold of the rise of the sisterhood of the divine daughter, the Age of Artemis.(Artemis: The Indomitable Spirit in Everywoman)
Workshop Sunday: Stages of Women’s Lives and Circles with a Sacred Center
In this workshop, participants will gain information to apply to themselves: learning how stages of women’s lives parallel the phases of the moon and are aspects of the Great Goddess as Maiden-Mother-Crone. Besides learning about circles with a sacred center, there will be an opportunity to be in a circle with others, trusting that synchronicity or meaningful coincidence to arrange them. Envisioned outcome: the workshop will inspire participants to form new circles, or transform book groups, mothers’ groups, or recovery groups into circles with a sacred center. My own mission since 2002, has been working toward having a 5th World Conference on Women, now focused on India 2022. A circle can be transformative, affecting its members, which can be over one’s lifetime, and is also one more on the way to reach the metaphoric millionth circle, the tipping point which quietly ends hierarchy, power-over, replacing the underlying structure of patriarchy. (The Millionth Circle:: How to Change Ourselves and The World and Urgent Message From Mother: Gather the Women, Save the World)
Location: UW Tower, 4333 Brooklyn Ave. NE, Seattle, WA
